As part of Between Land and Sea Festival 2021, The Transnational Assembly of Ecological Solidarity »Avoiding Climate Catastrophe« in Palermo is the culmination of a direct democracy process which consists of a series of 20 local assemblies of solidarity held across the European Union, to discuss the future of Europe. These ‘Assemblies of Solidarity’ are citizen-led groups which connect those who are disproportionately affected by Covid-19. These are moments and spaces made by and for citizens, to raise awareness on key topics revolving around three main pillars: Democracy and fundamental rights; Social Europe and Health; Environment and global warming. Taking place in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe, produces a transnational declaration on global warming, which will function as a crucial tool for political activism across Europe and the Mediterranean region.

Past Assemblies have taken place in Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the United-Kingdom and Sweden. Citizen representatives from those local Assemblies will join local citizens and residents from Palermo and Tunis to discuss the recommendations of the independent citizen-led discussion on how to prevent environmental catastrophe.
